La Bohemian Nueva

I doubt anyone would peg me as a person who doesn't like to have fun with her fashion choices. On the contrary, when I open my closet, I feel as if I'm entering a virtual pantheon of self-expression. Fashion gives me the opportunity to tell the world who I am without uttering a single descriptive word. When it comes time to decide what I'm wearing for the day, I ask myself - How do I feel today? What message do I want to convey? Once I'm tuned in, it's easy for me to slip into something befitting to my mood. A peek inside my wardrobe unleashes a treasure trove of possibilities.

On this day, I felt jovial, colorful, bright, artistic, and so in love with my Californian-Southwestern roots. To coincide with my cheerful attitude, I concocted an ensemble that brought my spirited mood to life - a white, colorfully embroidered festival dress; a fun pair of red suede sandals; and a hat that gives a huge smile towards my love for the great southwest. I call this look - La Bohemian Nueva (The New Bohemian). It speaks for my love of artistic-expression, but in a way that's a bit more refined, and understood. I hope you enjoy the look, and I'll meet you below in the comment section.

Sartorial Savvy:
  1. Though some may turn their nose at the idea of "ladylike" la bohemian nueva enjoys meshing her boho wear with pieces that are definitely feminine - ruffles, nipped waistline, pintucks, bows, and pretty color combinations.
  2. La bohemian nueva enjoys combining the boho look with other complementary styles, such as: Southwest, Romantic, Classic, or whatever your heart desires.
  3. La bohemian nueva understands she is a multi-faceted woman, and though a part of her personality is clearly intertwined with the world of artistic expression, she also has the ability to transform without deviating from her personal fashion aesthetic.

In the picture below, I had no idea my husband was photographing me while I was fighting with a bee that was attracted to the bright colors on my dress. I'll be the first to admit - I look silly😊

Before You Go...
  1. Thank you so much to all the people who have purchased copies of True Style: A Look Beyond the Surface, and have shared their book with me on Facebook and Instagram. I'm really enjoying the nice ways people have styled the book for the posts. Below is an image Eugenia of The Age of Grace shared with me on Instagram. True Style is available on Createspace eStore, Amazon and Kindle.
  2. Come back Wednesday for What's Interesting. I'm sharing a YouTube video I originally created on Facebook Live called, What's on the Rack: Spring Wardrobe Addition.
Have a wonderful week my bohemian nueva friends!
Stay True,
Glenda

Step Into the Leopard Lounge

I am beyond excited! I'm co-hosting an exclusive style event at my Chico's boutique called the Leopard Lounge, where I'll share my style secrets with the Chico's customer (more details below). What is the Leopard Lounge? Well, it's the Chico's fitting room, of course! Given the opportunity to talk fashion for the evening, for me, is the likeness to stepping into fashion paradise where top designers are keeping me cool with jewel encrusted fans and feeding me strawberries dipped in the finest chocolate (smile).

Okay, so maybe I've exaggerated just a touch. Nonetheless, the evening is going to be pretty fabulous. To give you a sample of what's to come, I'm sharing one of my style tips below...

Delanie Pendant Necklace - Chicos.com
Style Tip:
Become inspired by accessories. Yes, that's right...accessories! Instead of building outfits around the obvious - shirt, pants, skirt; use jewelry and accessories as your starting point of inspiration. For the event this evening, I created an entire look around the above Chico's Delanie Pendant Necklace - an outrageously gorgeous, Southwestern inspired necklace with simulated blue lapis stones and silver pearls.

Tonight, March 23rd from 4 to 8pm, stop by Chico's in the Shoppes at Chino Hills to enjoy an evening of shopping, socializing, and style. And please, say Hi. If you don't live in the area, please call your local Chico's boutique. This event is taking place in select Chico's in the United States. So, grab your besties, and step into the Leopard Lounge, and receive 25% off your entire purchase.

Did you catch me and my Fierce 50 friends in the Chico's promo?
Here it is!!

Stay True,
Glenda

The Spirit of Girlfriends

Wednesday, March eighth was a behemoth day for women all over the world. Not only was it International Women's Day, it was also a day when seven women from the Fierce 50 Campaign, came together, with the endorsement of Chico's, to celebrate the importance of girlfriends. Chico's, as we all know, is a strong advocate for women, and their customers remain at the heart of who they are today. It was no surprise, when the Fierce 50 stood up, Chico's took a stand as well, and decided to put an extra exclamation point on the spirit of girlfriends.

On this special day we were united in spirit and attire by donning Chico's So Slimming Girlfriend Jeans and Bracelets. We came together in a picturesque hilltop park to laugh, share, inspire, and to enjoy a delicious lunch under the golden California sun. The afternoon was simply lovely. Though we all follow one another via various forms of social media and had formed virtual friendships, it was such joy to finally meet face-to-face. There was a definite camaraderie. We used this precious time to enjoy the company of one another, and to remind the world, indeed, these girlfriends are fierce!

With the sun setting in the west, our #bestgirlfriend time came to an end. Though it was time to go our separate ways, we knew the bonds created had moved beyond online associates and into the beautiful realm that celebrates the spirit of girlfriends 💗

How Your Sense of True Style Expresses Who You Are

Good day friends!

It's time to take another trip to the corner of True Style Ave and Midlife Blvd. This month's article is called, How Your Sense of True Style Expresses Who You Are

Here's an excerpt...
Rachel Zoe stated it best when she said, “Style is way of saying who you are without having to speak.”
This statement is paramount in defining the idea of style as being much more than what we choose to wear. Because honestly, if style was simply wrapped up in handbags, shirts and dresses, then who would we be? “Hello, my name is (fill in your favorite clothing item).”Of course, this is an exaggeration, but you get my point. Does it make sense to base our identity on what we wear? This article continues at Midlife Boulevard (click the link to take you to the article)

Also...
Did you read this week's style story called, BREATHE (click the link)? It's the perfect reminder of what we must do to get us through each day.

And as always, my friends, thank you for being a part of the So What to Twenty community. Thank you to everyone who became members of the So What to Twenty Facebook Group (click the link to join. Females only). We had a blast this past Saturday celebrating the release of True Style: A Look Beyond the Surface. Congratulations to Charmel Sanders who won the grand prize (both of my books, an autographed illustration from True Style, and skincare from the book launch sponsor-brown & coconut), and to Cynthia Taylor who won the Take A Guess drawing. Enjoy your books ladies!

Breathe

I often think of the show Scandal, and the crazy, chaotic life of the leading character, Olivia Pope. My sister and I often have discussions that refer to the fictitious Pope. We make comments like, "Who could live like that...always hard-wired and stressed out?" When I did tune-in to watch, the only down time I witnessed Pope having, was an occasional evening alone with a glass of red wine and a tub of popcorn. If I lived my life like this woman, without periods set aside throughout the day to breathe, I would undoubtedly hurl myself in front of a moving truck. Please, just put me out of my misery.

Unlike Olivia Pope, I relish in times of tranquil solitude. It is within these precious times of peace - clarity meets me straight on. Nothing revives me more than time spent in complete silence. I understand for some, spending time in this manner is quite difficult. I have heard others state they feel intimidated by this process, or they would rather not partake because they don't want to hear their own thoughts. Perhaps, because of my introverted nature, being alone to breathe comes natural. Nevertheless, even with my tendency to need alone time, it is a skill that I, too, had to develop.

The life I have created for myself, though it is exciting and often glamorous, there comes with it, an area that I find challenging. Being an author and influencer requires me to be "On" quite often. What do I mean by On? I have to put myself out there in the public eye; whether I'm in front of a camera, at a meet-and-greet, or speaking at an event, these types of activities can be difficult for me. Rather than avoiding them, I welcome the challenge, but I know I must follow-up with time set aside to breathe. This is the way I refuel, think, remain in touch with myself, pray, get centered, seek direction, etc.

For today's style story I'm wearing a very appropriate ensemble for such a time as this - the Zenergy Sport Collection from Chico's. The perfect outfit for enjoying times of leisure, whether it be exercise, a quiet stroll in a park, or simply sitting and enjoying your favorite beverage. The ensemble is stylish, comfortable, it moves with my body, and it breathes. This is how to look and feel relaxed while keeping a high standard of wardrobe integrity.

Sartorial Savvy:
The great debate has been whether or not it is appropriate to wear yoga pants (leggings) as street wear. In my opinion, it depends on the condition of such pants. If you're schlumping around in beat-up, ultra sheer, workout gear, I would highly recommend not doing so. However, with fashionable pieces like the Zenergy Sport Collection, the idea of wearing yoga pants outside the workout area is appropriate. What makes the outfit extra nice? Fun patterns, pretty colors, special details, functional, and the length of the jacket conceals the derriere.

My mission is to nurture the entire woman - spirit, mind, body and wardrobe. I believe true style is related to our essence...our internal depth (substance). When you remove the clothing and fancy labels and titles - what remains? Only you can answer this question. If you cannot, I highly recommend setting aside time to collect your thoughts and to breathe.

Before you go, did you see last week's Style Story called Santa Fe? I must admit, the images were gorgeous in black and white. Quite a diversion from the typical post. In the post I channel my style crush, the late, Georgia O'Keeffe. Take a look at Santa Fe and What's Interesting: Georgia O'Keeffe.
